Instead of Google Calendar, Google Contacts

Radicale is a calendar and contacts server so plain that you could back it up with a file copy. It shares calendars and address books over CalDAV and CardDAV, handles events, to-dos, journal entries and contacts, stores everything on the file system in a simple folder structure, and says it works out of the box with no complicated setup. It is GPLv3 free software and works with many CalDAV and CardDAV clients.
Radicale scores a 5 on lock-in, a 4 on footprint, power and longevity and a 3 on self-direction and delivery.
It is a server, so it has no phone app of its own, and you pair it with a client such as DAVx5 on Android. The page names no developers, no funding and no supported platforms, so Longevity and Power rest on the licence and the plain-files design.
- Shares calendars and contacts over CalDAV and CardDAV
- Stores everything as plain files in folders
- A server only, so you need a client app

This badge reports a dated review. It is not a certification and it costs nothing. Link it to this page and leave the numbers alone: the image always shows the current score.

For comparison, we also reviewed Google Calendar (16/30) as a benchmark.
