Benchmark review. Giants are reviewed rarely, to show what the tools in the directory are measured against. This one is not listed in the directory, and it is an example, not a recommendation. Scores are our opinion on the six questions, based on public sources and dated October 2026.

Google Translate is where most people start when a sign or a menu is in a language they cannot read, and Google's help pages describe downloading languages to use offline. Its help says that when you are signed in, your translations automatically save to the cloud, you can review that history on your My Activity page, and your saved translations sync across your devices and can be exported to Google Sheets. You can clear history in the app or on the web.

Google's documentation for its paid Cloud Translation API says it does not use content sent to that API to train its translation features. That is a different product from the consumer app, and we found no equivalent statement for the app, so we did not count it. Power is a 1 because one advertising company decides how the service works and what it keeps. As of October 2026 this is our opinion, based on public sources, and if you spot an error, write to hello@toolsforconviviality.org and we will check it and correct it. Compare it with the tools in Translation.

    What stands out

  • Saves your translations to your Google account when you are signed in
  • Google documents offline language downloads
  • Its no-training statement covers the paid API, not the app
