Buying bread from the baker instead of the supermarket means one fewer middleman, and Obtainium does that for Android apps. It gets apps from where their developers publish them, such as GitHub, and keeps them updated, with no store in the middle and no account. It is licensed GPL-3.0 and is mostly the work of one maintainer on GitHub.
Obtainium scores a 5 on footprint, lock-in, self-direction and power and a 3 on longevity and delivery.
Some of its sources work by scraping websites, which can break, so Longevity and Delivery are a 3 each.
You add the pages of the apps you want, and it watches them for new versions.

This badge reports a dated review. It is not a certification and it costs nothing. Link it to this page and leave the numbers alone: the image always shows the current score.

For comparison, we also reviewed Google Play (15/30) as a benchmark.
