Aurora Store describes itself as an unofficial free software client to Google Play, licensed GPL-3.0, and it runs on Android. It lets you get apps from the Play catalogue without the official app.

Aurora Store scores a 4 on footprint, lock-in, self-direction and delivery and a 3 on power and longevity.

We have not confirmed from its own pages how its sign-in works, so check that before relying on it for privacy. It still depends on Google's catalogue and servers, so a change on Google's side can change how it works.

    What stands out

  • An unofficial open source client to Google Play
  • An unofficial client, so it can break
  • Depends on Google's servers

This badge reports a dated review. It is not a certification and it costs nothing. Link it to this page and leave the numbers alone: the image always shows the current score.

For dark backgrounds, use aurora-store-dark.svg in place of aurora-store-light.svg.

For comparison, we also reviewed Google Play (15/30) as a benchmark.
