Shotcut edits video with filters, transitions and colour tools, and it works with nearly any file format. It is open source, runs on Windows, Mac and Linux, and has no account, no watermark and no subscription.
Shotcut scores a 5 on lock-in and self-direction, a 4 on footprint, power and longevity and a 3 on delivery.
It is plainer than phone editors like CapCut, and phone editing is not what it is for, so Delivery is a 3.
Having it means a video editor on your computer that puts nothing of its own on your finished film.
- Edits video with filters and transitions, no watermark
- Opens nearly any format
- Plainer than the phone editors it replaces

This badge reports a dated review. It is not a certification and it costs nothing. Link it to this page and leave the numbers alone: the image always shows the current score.

For comparison, we also reviewed Snapchat (14/30) as a benchmark.
