Anyone who has watched a worn VHS tape knows the strange beauty of a picture coming apart, and PhotoMosh does that on purpose. It is the work of one developer, Felix Turner of Airtight Interactive. You load an image or turn on your webcam, press Mosh, and get something strange. It is a toy in the best sense, and it runs in a web browser.
PhotoMosh scores a 5 on lock-in, self-direction and delivery and a 3 on footprint, power and longevity.
Your images are never stored online and anything you make is yours to use anywhere. It loses points because the code is closed, it needs a fairly recent device, and the free version lives only as long as the website does. There is a paid Pro desktop version.
Using it means a page, a photo or a webcam, and a button.
- Glitches photos, video and webcam right in the browser
- Your images are never stored online
- Made by one developer, and the code is closed

This badge reports a dated review. It is not a certification and it costs nothing. Link it to this page and leave the numbers alone: the image always shows the current score.
For dark backgrounds, use photomosh-dark.svg in place of photomosh-light.svg.
For comparison, we also reviewed Snapchat (14/30) as a benchmark.
