PeerTube is video-sharing software that runs on a server of your own, and each site connects to others to form a network. Framasoft, a French non-profit, develops it and says over 90% of its funding comes from donations. It depends on no advertising and does not track you, and each platform's owners build, manage and moderate their own.

PeerTube scores a 5 on power, a 4 on self-direction and longevity and a 3 on footprint, lock-in and delivery.

That makes it a place to keep and share video you made and not a short-video feed. The rules differ from one platform to the next, and the audience is small next to the giants. We did not check how easy it is to take your videos and followers elsewhere.
