Bluesky runs on the AT Protocol, which in principle lets other servers and apps take part, and it lets you pick or build your own feed algorithm. It feels close to what people liked about early Twitter.

Bluesky scores a 4 on delivery, a 3 on lock-in, self-direction, power and longevity and a 2 on footprint.

Most of the activity still runs through the company's own servers, and the company is a public benefit corporation. We have not checked who funds it or how easy it is to leave with your posts.

This badge reports a dated review. It is not a certification and it costs nothing. Link it to this page and leave the numbers alone: the image always shows the current score.

For dark backgrounds, use bluesky-dark.svg in place of bluesky-light.svg.

For comparison, we also reviewed Instagram (7/30) and TikTok (6/30) as a benchmark.
