Fonzie on Happy Days could start a jukebox with a thump of his fist, and Ampache is a jukebox that asks for a little more than that. It has served personal music libraries from a web page for more than ten years, it is licensed AGPL-3.0, and the music stays on your server. Third-party apps connect through a Jellyfin-compatible interface.

Ampache scores a 5 on lock-in, self-direction and power, a 4 on longevity and a 3 on footprint and delivery.

You need a web server, PHP and a database, as well as your own files, so Delivery is a 3.

Having it means a jukebox in a corner of the house that you built yourself, and keep running.

    What stands out

  • Streams your own music collection from a web page
  • Has served personal libraries for over a decade
  • Needs a server and your own files

This badge reports a dated review. It is not a certification and it costs nothing. Link it to this page and leave the numbers alone: the image always shows the current score.

For comparison, we also reviewed Spotify (14/30) as a benchmark.
