PairDrop
Send a file to a nearby device from the browser, with nothing to install.
Instead of AirDrop

PairDrop puts the idea behind AirDrop into a web page. It shows the other devices on your network inside the page, you drop a file onto one, and the file travels directly between the devices. There is no account, nothing to install, and it works across Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS, which is the part AirDrop never managed.
PairDrop scores a 5 on lock-in, self-direction and power, a 4 on footprint and delivery and a 3 on longevity.
It is a small volunteer project, so Longevity is a 3. We have not audited how its connection setup works, and for private files you should read its documentation first.
Using it is a page you open on two devices, with a file dropped onto the other one's name.
- Works like AirDrop between any devices with a browser
- No account and nothing to install
- A small volunteer project, so lean on it for convenience

This badge reports a dated review. It is not a certification and it costs nothing. Link it to this page and leave the numbers alone: the image always shows the current score.

For comparison, we also reviewed Google Drive (15/30) as a benchmark.
